APPRENTICESHIP
Trade: This Union represents Journeymen and Apprentice Plumbers, Steamfitters, Pipefitters, Welders, Refrigeration Techs, & HVAC Service Techs.
Description of Trade
Plumbers: Plumbers and Pipefitters install, maintain, and repair many different types of pipe systems. For example, some systems move water to a municipal water treatment plant and then to residential, commercial, and public buildings. Some bring in gas for stoves and furnaces. Others supply air-conditioning. Pipe systems in power plants carry the steam that powers huge turbines. Pipes also are used in manufacturing plants to move material through the production process. Plumbers & Pipefitters commonly join piping using many different processes, including welding, soldering, brazing, and mechanical joining.
Refrigeration Techs, & HVAC Service Techs: Heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration mechanics and installers—often called heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration(HVACR) technicians—work on heating, ventilation, cooling, and refrigeration systems that control the temperature and air quality in buildings.
