APPRENTICESHIP
Description of Trades
Cement Masons: Cement masons work with cement in all of the following areas: commercial use, concrete repair, curbs and gutters, decorative concrete, flatwork concrete, heavy concrete and highways, industrial, and residential uses
Plasterers: Plasterers work in one or more of the following areas: exterior insulation finish systems, fireproofing, free form and theme plastering, historical restoration, interior gypsum plaster, motion picture and special effects, specialty and colored finishes.

General Requirements: Must live in the local’s jurisdiction, be 18 years of age or older, have a high school diploma or GED equivalent, a valid driver’s license, and be able to pass a drug test.
Jurisdiction: The counties of Champaign, Clark, Coles, Cumberland, Douglas, Edgar, Ford, Moultrie, Piatt, Shelby, and Vermillion
Application Process: Applications are available year round. Applicants must call for an appointment, 217-356-9313. There is a $15.00 application fee.
Apprentice Training: Apprentices are required to attend an educational class and union meeting each month. These classes will include all necessary safety certificates, math, tool usage and technical training needed to master journeyman skills. In addition, all apprentices will be placed in the field to get hands on training.
Wages: Average pay is $23.21 per hour or $48,277 per year
